Australian company to print batteries on solar panels
Innovation July 13, 2017

One Australian company is on a mission to print out ultra-thin, flexible screen-printed batteries, which could then be applied on top of super-thin flexible screen-printed solar panels and revolutionize the renewable energy industry.

The company, Printed Energy, just received backing from the federal government in the form of $12 million dollars to produce the printed batteries and bring them to market. Their main priority is developing the batteries for powering sensors, devices for the “Internet or Things”, disposable healthcare devices and eventually, for solar.

The goal is to reduce the cost of manufacturing to next to nothing – it would come out in miles of rolled sheets, just like a newspaper. The challenge, however, is to ensure it has enough efficiency to produce enough power, and to store it, making it competitive with the market.
